In the afternoon of October 26, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the University of Australia held a signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding online. Chen Jianguo, the Vice President of HUST, and Tayyeb Shah, the Vice President of International Affairs for UWA attended the meeting. Representatives from the Office of International Affairs, the School of Physics and the School of Management of both universities participated in the ceremony. Our Deputy Dean Cai Jianming and Prof. Lu Zehuang participated the ceremony as representatives of our school.
Chen and Shah delivered opening speeches respectively. Both sides expressed the hope that the two universities would establish a more constructive relationship based on a profound and solid cooperation foundation. Peng Yumeng, the Director of America and Oceania affairs of the Office of International Affairs, gave an introduction to the previous cooperation between two universities.
During the discussion, Prof. Lu Zehuang introduced the cooperation in the aspects of students cultivation, research cooperation, as well as the application of 111 programs with Prof. Michael Tobar’s team. Prof. Michael Tobar also pointed that he visited the School of hysics of HUST many times before the pandemic and the CGE, which was a national research platform, left a deep impression on him. The two schools have established a solid cooperative foundation, Lu expected further cooperation in the future.
Cai Jianming gave an introduction to the School of Physics of HUST. Supported by three national platforms, the Ley Laboratory of MOE and the Hubei Provincial Ley Laboratory, the discipline of our school developed fastly. Wang from the Department of Physics of UWA also refered that the department has been established for hundreds of years, building a number of research teams and lab centers in the field of astrophysics, computational physics, experimental physics and theorical physics. Based on current cooperation, both sides were expected to promote higher-level academic and educational exchanges in the future.
At the end of the ceremony, Chen and Shah signed the "Memorandum of Understanding between HUST and the University of Western Australia" through the video link.
