Professor Luo Jun was born in November, 1956 in Xiantao City, Hubei Province, . He was elected Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009.
Prof. Luo received his bachelar's degree in the Department of Physical Chemistry in Huazhong Institute of Technology (HIT) in 1982, then joined the HIT faculty. In 1985, he completed his master study in HIT and received his Master's degree in SYSU. He became a professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology(HUST) in 1994. He obtained his doctoral degree from the Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999.
Prof. Luo's research in the field of precision measurement physics and gravitational experiments. His professional accomplishments are as followed: experimental determination of Newtonian gravitational constant G and the values were collected by CODATA since 1998; new upper limit on the photon mass was collected by Particle Data Group (2004); first developed and determined the WEP for extended rotating bodies; tests of Newtonian inverse square law in short ranges; and more than 150 refereed journal publications since 1985.
Prof. Luo was appointed as Vice-President of HUST in July 2010, and Executive Vice-President of HUST in July 2013. He was appointed as President of Sun Yat-sen University in January 2015. In April 2017, he became Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee and President of Sun Yat-sen University.
