Research Interests: His main research involves high-temperature superconductors (HTSC), colossal magnetoresistance (CMR), spintronic and multiferroic physics etc. He had successfully hosted a national 973 project (Group Leader), five projects from the National Natural Science Foundation, a foundation for“cross-century talents”from the Ministry of Education. In 2005 and 2007, he was awarded the second prize in natural science by the Ministry of Education and Hubei Province, respectively. He has nine authorized patents, published more than 300 SCI papers in international journals.


Academic Degrees

Professional Experience

During the period from 1989 to 1998, he worked at Institute of Plasma Physics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was specially appointed as an Associate Professor in 1991 and Professor in 1995 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He visited in University of Tokyo, Japan, as a visiting professor (December, 1991 –April, 1994) and JSPS senior visiting scholar (December, 1997- March, 1998).In September 1998, Prof. Yuan was introduced to Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) as a talent and successively became the first level of HUST "113" Talent Project and the Distinguished Professor in HUST, “cross-century”talent of the Ministry of Education, evaluation expert of National Science and Technology Awards, and executive member of the council in the 1st National institute of solid physics of colleges and universities. In 2007 and 2011, he was appointed as a second-level professor and a special professor for the Huazhong Scholars, respectively.

Awards and Honors

Up to now, three postdoctoral fellows have finished their research work and thirty-eight students have gotten their Ph. D. degrees under the guidance of Prof. Yuan. His teaching courses include "Quantum Mechanics", "Solid state Physics” etc. Due to his excellent contributions in education, he won awards for "Morality and Nurturing”, "Three Aspects of Education advanced individual” and "Educating People Bole".
