Prof.Pan received his B.S.degree in Applied Physics from Hunan University, China, in 1996 and his Ph.D. degree in Condensed Matter Physics from Nanjing University, China, in 2001. In 2001, he joined Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, as a Postdoctoral Researcher. In 2004-2005, he worked in University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Oak Ridge National Lab, Oak Ridge TN, as a Postdoctoral Associate Researcher. After that, he worked in Oak Ridge National Lab, Oak Ridge TN, as a R&D Staff member. He is presently a Distinguished Professor in the School of Physics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China. In the past ten years he has worked on a series of research programs sponsored by NSFC and US Department of Energy funds. Prof. Pan also actively cooperates with the researchers around the world. His research interests include studying the lattice, charge and spin on solid surface and low-dimensional materials using the powerful capabilities of STM in atomic scale, single molecular surface-based chemistry, developing the state-of-the-art scanning probe microscopy , growth and control of low-dimensional structures such as dots, wires and atomic flat thin films on various surfaces by molecular beam epitaxial (MBE) method.
