Dr. Xin Liu Received his B.S. degree in School of Physics, Nankai University in 2003, M.S. degree in Chern Institute of Mathematics, Nankai University in 2006 and his Ph.D. degree in department of physics, Texas A&M University in 2012. After graduation, he had worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Pennsylvania State University from 2012 to 2014 and Condensed Matter Theory Center, University of Maryland from 2014-2015. He is presently a Full Professor in the School of Physics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China.

  • Topological insulators, topological superconductors and Majorana fermions
  • Spin-triplet superconductors and their topology
  • Spintronics and nanoelectronics
  • Hall effect, spin Hall effect, anomalous Hall effect and their quantum version
  • Cold atoms and Optical lattice

In the past twenty years, the deeply study of spin in condensed matter brings a conceptional revolution in fundamental science as well as emerging technologies, such as spintronics. Due to the crystal field and the external electric field in crystalline solid, the electron spin couples to its motion according to the relativistic effect, known as spin-orbit coupling

(SOC) which can dramatically change the band structures and accordingly induce new exotic topological phases such as topological insulators and topological superconductors. This also motivate people to utilize the spin degree of freedom of electrons to reduce the energy cost and realize the functionality of the ordinary electronic devices. At present, my research is focused on exploring new spin dependent phenomena in strong SOC materials and their applications in quantum devices.
